I have always admired stained glass windows. In my book, House of Belief: Creating Your Personal Style, I share how an experience with stained glass in Paris--at Notre Dame Cathedral--changed my life. From that moment in Paris, I have believed that we can use the power of creativity as a positive force in our lives. Creative thoughts design our days through our choices: what we eat for breakfast, where we go, what we wear, and how we think and love. Projects that help us to act on our positive feelings and visually express them keep us on the high road with a reminder of the good. I designed this "Stained Glass Friends" tribute as a visual reminder of the overriding importance of family, friendship, and guiding values. It is a super holiday project that can be created for a family gathering as well. Each guest can create one simple piece to add to this stained glass celebration. Individual pieces make great Christmas tree ornaments too! Also, great for honoring birthday friends.
PROJECT MATERIALS: You will need colored plexiglass squares cut to 4" x 4". Key chain at desired lengths. Photos of friends and family copied on clear transparency paper. Clear drying spray adhesive. SIMPLY: Drill a hole/s in the plexi-glass; cut the image to fit the square. Apply the image by lightly dusting the plexi-glass with spray adhesive. Use key chain to link together or to hang singularly on your Christmas tree. Also, you may use a window-adhesive hook to display just one.
COMMENT TO WIN A "KATILLAC SHACK KIT" to make this project!
Winner: Rhonda @ Blue Creek Home. Congratulations!

What a GREAT project! I would have to make the project to showcase the first grandbaby we have in our family, Madison, and I can see this hanging by my daughter's kitchen window, so I'd include photos of her and her husband Oliver to go along with Madison, a family trio! She'd love this! Suzie purrpage3[at]verizon[dot]net

What a wonderful project. A great way to celebrate those you love. I would picture my husband and me together and then our dog and our cat. We have never had children so we compensate with the pets!

This is such a great idea, it looks wonderful. Even more wonderful to read on down to your next post and discover that you are in Kansas City as well. I have never seen the coffee shop you wrote about in your last post, but I bet my daughters have. They hang out in the arts district all the time. Two of them have done internships down there. One in the fashion industry and the other as an artist. I cant wait to show 'the artist' this post. It looks like something she could use to decorate her first apartment.
If you have never pursued learning the craft of real stained glass making, I encourage you to try one of the beginner classes in the studio on Metcalf. It was one of the most fun things I ever did, and its a skill that comes in real handy as a crafter.
Thanks for sharing with us and I will be keeping and eye on your blog now that I have found you!

What a great way to preserve precious images and a good gift idea! I have always loved stained glass--it seems to have a mystery about it!

Ingenious idea, but how do you copy the photos, and is it difficult to drill on plexiglass?
